Top 10 cafés in Agra, and what each one is good for
Agra’s best cafés are small, independent and mostly a short walk from the Taj. Here are ten we would send a friend to, from a pocket-sized South Gate café that has made lassi since 1978 to one run by acid-attack survivors.

The best cafés in Agra are small, independent and mostly a short walk from the Taj Mahal. Our ten, in order: Sheroes Hangout, Joney’s Place, London Coffee Club, Good Vibes Cafe, Chia Taj View Cafe, Bread N Mime Café, Old England Cafe, Yash Cafe, 25 Hours Hangout Cafe and 3C’s Cafe.
Seven of them are serving by 8:00 AM. That surprises people who know the city’s cafés, which rarely open before late morning, but the cafés around the Taj start their day with the monument rather than the city — and the monument opens before sunrise.
How we chose
Independent places only: no chains, and no coffee shops in the big hotels. This is Altitude’s journal: Altitude, our rooftop above MG Road 2, is not a café and not ranked, and the ten are places we would send a friend. We checked each one against its listing and against what visitors reported in 2025 and 2026, and left out anything we could not confirm was still trading. Then we ranked them on two things: what they give you for what they ask, and how hard they would be to replace.
Nine of the ten are on the Taj side of town, which is where most visitors spend their mornings; 3C’s, in Sanjay Place, is the city’s entry. Opening hours are as listed in October 2026, and small cafés change them, so check before you go. We have not printed a price for two, because we could not confirm a current one; “budget” and “mid-range” are the price bands these cafés carry on TripAdvisor.
This is the practical list. Why Agra’s cafés work the way they do — the heat, the long sits, the empty afternoons — is in our guide to café culture in Agra. And if breakfast to you means bedai and jalebi, that happens at street stalls rather than cafés: see our top 10 street foods in Agra.

1. Sheroes Hangout — the one worth going out of your way for
Sheroes Hangout is a café run by women who survived acid attacks. The first one opened here in 2014, set up by the Chhanv Foundation, and it is in Taj Nagri, the colony along the road to the Taj Mahal’s East Gate. You may be invited to watch a short film about why the café exists; it is hard viewing, and it is the point.
The menu is simple — masala chai and a paneer paratha, a passion fruit iced tea, a home-style plate of dal, rice and sabzi — and there is a shop of handmade things. It opened on pay-what-you-wish, moved to fixed prices around 2020, and visitors in 2025 and 2026 describe a menu without prices, paid by donation. Open 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.
Tip: ask at the counter how paying works that day, pay what the meal was worth to you, and ask before you photograph anyone.
2. Joney’s Place — the South Gate breakfast, since 1978
Joney’s Place is a pocket-sized café in Taj Ganj, a few steps from the Taj Mahal’s South Gate, and the same family has run it since 1978. The kitchen is tiny, you are welcome to look into it, and it turns out a menu far longer than its size suggests. A handful of tables and no pretence.
Order the banana lassi, which is what it is known for, and the malai kofta if it is lunchtime. Listed hours run from 5:00 AM to 10:30 PM, so it is open whether you are going in at sunrise or coming out at nine. Budget.
Tip: say how hot you want it. The kitchen will cook mild on request, and the family will steer you to what is good that day.
3. London Coffee Club — for people who care about the coffee
London Coffee Club is at HIG 52, Taj Nagri Phase 1, the same colony as Sheroes on the East Gate side of the Taj. It is the one on this list for people who travel with opinions about coffee: there is pour-over as well as the usual espresso drinks, and an affogato for the afternoon.
The food runs all day — breakfast at any hour, then burgers, pizzas, sandwiches and pasta, with a Biscoff cheesecake for afters. Free wifi. Open 7:15 AM to 11:45 PM, so it works for breakfast after a sunrise visit and for coffee after dinner. Mid-range.
Tip: order the pour-over first and the cold coffee second. If you need an hour on a laptop near the Taj, this is the place to spend it.

4. Good Vibes Cafe — the all-rounder by Shilpgram
Good Vibes is an owner-run café on Shilpgram Road, beside the Taj parking at Shilpgram, about 15 minutes’ walk from the Taj by the owner’s reckoning. It cooks a little of everything — Indian, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Continental — at budget prices, with balcony tables over the road and a room indoors.
It is the family pick: board games to borrow, charging points at the tables and free wifi. Order the aloo gobi, a mango lassi or masala chai, and ask for breakfast to be made vegan if that is how you eat. Open 7:00 AM to 11:30 PM.
Tip: it is the natural stop on the way back from the East Gate, for breakfast after a sunrise visit or a late lunch after a later one.
5. Chia Taj View Cafe — the Taj from a café table
Chia is the café on the roof of Hotel Shanti Lodge, in Chowk Kagziyan in Taj Ganj, and the straight answer to “is there a café with a Taj Mahal view?” It is one of the taller roofs in the lanes, and it looks across at the dome with little in the way.
Order cold coffee or masala chai, the cheese naan, or a peanut butter and banana milkshake. It is mid-range, dearer than the cafés in the lanes below; the view is what the difference buys. Listed hours are 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, but only until 10:00 AM on Wednesdays.
Tip: come at sunrise or in the last hour before sunset, since the Taj is not floodlit after dark. On a Friday, when the monument is closed to visitors, a roof like this or Mehtab Bagh across the river is the closest look you will get; more roofs are in our top 10 rooftop restaurants in Agra.
6. Bread N Mime Café — the one where you order in writing
Bread N Mime is a ground-floor café on Fatehabad Road, a few hundred metres from the Trident hotel, run — in its own words — with specially abled staff. Some of the team are deaf, so you order by writing down the number and letter printed beside each dish, and every table has a buzzer to call someone over. It takes about ten seconds to get used to.
Start with a coffee, then a cheese masala toast, chilli honey fries or onion pakoras; at breakfast, a stuffed paratha or pancakes. Vegetarian-friendly, with vegan options. Open 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Budget.
Tip: work out your order before you press the buzzer, and write the codes clearly. That is all the etiquette there is.
7. Old England Cafe — the pretty one, for a date
Old England Cafe is on the Taj East Gate Road near Shilpgram, about 550 metres from the Taj, and it is the answer if you searched for an aesthetic café in Agra. It is done up as an English country cottage, wooden ceiling beams and all, which is not what you expect a short walk from a Mughal tomb, and is charming anyway.
It is a pizzeria first: Neapolitan-style pizza and pasta, truffle fries, then a Spanish latte or a cold coffee and the chocolate mud jar. Open 1:00 PM to midnight, so it is lunch, dinner and late coffee rather than breakfast. Mid-range.
Tip: go for dinner rather than lunch. A room dressed like this one is better with the lights on and the day’s sightseeing done.
8. Yash Cafe — the day-tripper’s base
Yash Cafe is at 3/137 Chowk Kagziyan, by the Taj Mahal’s South Gate, up a flight of stairs with a view down into the lane. It serves Indian and international food — butter chicken with rice, pizza, masala chai, breakfast — from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM, with free wifi. Budget.
What sets it apart is practical: it offers lockers and a hot shower. If you have checked out of your hotel and your train leaves in the evening, this is where to leave the bag, wash off the day and eat before the station.
Tip: ask about the terms for the locker and the shower when you first arrive, not at the moment you need them.
9. 25 Hours Hangout Cafe — home cooking by the East Gate
The 25 Hours Hangout Cafe is a quiet café on the Taj East Gate Road, opposite the Oberoi Amarvilas and near the Taj Nature Walk — about 300 metres from the Taj, by its own count. The cooking is home-style and unhurried, and breakfast is the reason to come.
Order omelettes and pancakes, banana porridge, puri bhaji, or a paratha with chai: simple food, made fresh, at budget prices. Free wifi, and it takes reservations. Open 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Tip: it is closed on Fridays, the same day as the Taj, so keep it for Saturday to Thursday.
10. 3C’s Cafe — the city café, in Sanjay Place
3C’s Cafe is the one on this list away from the Taj: a café in the Deepshikha Building on Wazirpura Road, Sanjay Place, the commercial complex on MG Road. It describes itself as a cute café for handcrafted drinks, snacks and desserts, and that is the brief — shakes, burgers and coffee, plus a triple-cheese noodle dish for anyone who wants something familiar after a week of curry.
It suits students, a first date in the city, or an hour off between errands in Sanjay Place. Open 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM.
Tip: if you are staying in the city rather than near the Taj, this is the one you can reach without crossing town.

One more, unranked, because it is not a café and because it is ours. This is Altitude’s journal: the rooftop restaurant above MG Road 2 is ours, and the ten above are simply places we would send a friend. If the evening calls for a coffee, a frappe or a shake with the city spread out below, come up and order the Saffron Frappe; every mocktail is 30% off from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, every day. A table costs nothing to book online.
