The top 10 rooftop restaurants in Agra, from Taj views to city lights
Agra’s rooftops come in two kinds: terraces you climb for the Taj, and city roofs you book for the whole evening. These are the ten we would send a friend to, starting, as you would expect, with our own.

The best rooftop restaurants in Agra come in two kinds. Close to the monument, in Taj Ganj and along Taj East Gate Road, hotel roofs put the Taj Mahal over your plate. Out on Fatehabad Road and MG Road, the city rooftops sell the evening instead: they stay open later, and the Taj is far off or not there at all. Our ten cover both, starting with our own roof above MG Road 2, then The Salt Cafe and Molecule Air Bar on Fatehabad Road.
Taj-view terraces and city rooftops
Taj Ganj is the neighbourhood immediately south of the Taj, and its hotels put their restaurants on the roof because height is the only way to see the dome over the next building. The two hotels on Taj East Gate Road in this list are within about 0.6 km of the monument. You go to these for the view, which is best in the late afternoon and at sunset.
Fatehabad Road, the hotel road running east from Taj Ganj, and MG Road, through the middle of the city, are where rooftops are evenings out in their own right. From the Fatehabad Road roofs that face it, the Taj is in view at a distance; from ours on MG Road 2 it is not there at all. Our guide to choosing between them sets out the difference, and what makes a rooftop worth the lift ride is the checklist we hold every roof to, ours included.

How we chose
Three tests. Every place here is on the roof of its building. Every one serves full meals, not just drinks and snacks. And every one was checked against its own website or public listing in the first week of October 2026; a few Taj Ganj guesthouse terraces from older guides are missing because we could not confirm they are still open.
The order is ours. Our own roof comes first, for the reason above; after that it is our judgement of how well each place does a whole evening, with the view a bonus rather than the point. No star ratings: they change weekly, and you can read them yourself. Hours are as each place lists them, so check before you go.
1. Altitude Rooftop Lounge — city lights and a kitchen on the roof
Ours, on the top floor above MG Road 2 in Shahganj, and the one on this list built for the whole evening rather than one look at the dome. What you get is the city at night — its lights below and a lot of sky — not the Taj, so book us for the evening, not the monument.
The kitchen is on the roof too, with a tandoor, a wok and a pizza oven, so the naan arrives hot. The menu runs to 225 dishes, ₹20 to ₹830, across North Indian, Mughlai, Chinese, Continental and Italian. There are 60 seats on the terrace and 40 indoors in air conditioning, for May, June and the monsoon.
We serve no alcohol. The cold list is long instead, from a ₹160 Virgin Mojito to a Paan Mojito and a Saffron Frappe, and every mocktail is 30% off from 5 to 7 PM, every day. Open daily from 1:00 PM, last kitchen order 11:00 PM; booking a table online is free and comes with a table offer.

2. The Salt Cafe Kitchen & Bar — an all-season roof on Fatehabad Road
A rooftop restaurant across the third and fourth floors of a Fatehabad Road building, and not a new one: it says it has been doing group dining for more than eight years. Its trick is the roof itself. A retractable cover makes it an all-season room, open to the sky on a good night and closed over when the weather turns, which in Agra counts for a great deal.
The menu runs across Indian, Chinese, Italian and Continental, and reviewers single out the dum biryani. There is a full bar alongside the mocktails and iced teas. The Taj is in view from the top floor, at a distance, so ask for a window seat when you book if that matters to you. It lists its hours as 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM, among the latest on this list, which makes it a good last stop after a late arrival.
3. Molecule Air Bar — the rooftop with a show
In Taj Nagri Phase 2 on Fatehabad Road, near the Courtyard by Marriott, Molecule is the roof you go to for theatre. It calls itself an air bar, and its concept, interiors and experimental food and drinks take their cue from the Second World War era. Cocktails arrive with a performance, the desserts get one too, and the chaat is assembled at your table.
Under the theatre the menu is reassuringly familiar: butter chicken, biryani and dal makhani are the dishes reviewers name. It is a full bar with a DJ and live music, and the volume is part of the deal, so if you want to talk, go for lunch or the sunset hour, when the roof is at its best anyway. It lists its hours as 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
4. Qairo — cabanas and an upper deck on Fatehabad Road
On the fourth floor of Howard Plaza The Fern on Fatehabad Road, Qairo calls itself a rooftop social bar, and the layout backs that up: an indoor hall, a private dining room, cabanas, open-air tables and an upper deck. A party of twelve and a table for two can both find the right corner, and reviewers write about the view of the Taj from the roof.
The kitchen covers Indian, Mediterranean and Asian, and the dishes reviewers name are the comfortable ones: paneer lababdar, pindi chole, dal makhani, honey chilli potato and pizza. There is a full bar and live music, and it lists its hours as 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM. It describes itself as a high-end dining and social venue, and the cabanas are the reason to pick it for a group: ask about one when you book.
5. Tea’se Me — the all-day rooftop cafe
On the roof of Hotel M House, near the Purani Mandi crossing on Fatehabad Road, Tea’se Me is the best answer on this list to the search for a rooftop cafe. It opens at 11:00 AM and runs to 11:45 PM, so it works for a late brunch as well as dinner, and the roof has an open section and a covered, air-conditioned one, which matters on an Agra afternoon.
The menu is Indian, with international dishes alongside. Afghan chicken, malai tikka and paneer lababdar are the dishes reviewers name, with a cheese naan on the side, and pasta and noodles for anyone who has had enough curry for one trip. It serves wine and beer, and there is live music. Tip: it is a good place to sit out the afternoon heat between the Taj in the morning and a train in the evening.
6. Pyramid Taj View — dinner with the dome in sight
Near Bikanerwala on Fatehabad Road, Pyramid Taj View does what its name says. On a clear day the Taj is in plain sight from the roof, and that view is what its reviewers write about first. Of the Fatehabad Road rooftops, it is the one that puts the monument at the centre of the evening.
The kitchen is North Indian, and the butter chicken is the dish reviewers name. Beer is served, in a tower for the table if there are several of you. It lists its hours as 11:00 AM to 11:45 PM, for lunch and dinner. Tip: arrive for the last hour of daylight. The view is the reason to come, and after dark the Taj from any roof is an outline at best.
7. Taj Terrace, Hotel Taj Resorts — a moonlit roof by the East Gate
Hotel Taj Resorts is on Taj East Gate Road near Shilpgram, a ten-minute walk from the Taj by its own count, or about 0.5 km, and its rooftop restaurant is open sky with the monument in view. It serves dinner only, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, it seats 60, and the hotel’s own advice is to come on a full-moon night.
The menu is Indian, Chinese and Continental, with Mughlai cooking among the hotel’s stated specialities, and there is live music. Tip: Shilpgram is where visitors report for the ASI’s night viewing of the Taj, on five nights a month around the full moon, so this is the obvious table before or after your slot. Ask about drinks when you book.
8. Taj Jharokha, Hotel Atulyaa Taj — lunch after the Taj
Hotel Atulyaa Taj is on Taj East Gate Road, about 0.6 km from the monument, and Taj Jharokha is its rooftop: a garden roof, green with plants, beside the pool, with the Taj in view in the distance. A jharokha is an overhanging balcony window, and the name fits a place that is about the seat and the view rather than a show.
It serves an Indian and international menu, with alcohol, from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and reviewers mention the biryani and the grilled fish. Tip: walk over after a morning at the Taj and make it lunch. Taj Terrace, the other East Gate roof on this list, opens only in the evening.
9. Sky Grill, Crystal Sarovar Premiere — a pool-deck rooftop
Crystal Sarovar Premiere, on Fatehabad Road, keeps its rooftop restaurant beside the pool. The hotel describes Sky Grill as open-air, under the stars, with a view of the Taj, and that is the pitch: the pool, the sky and the monument in the distance. It suits a quiet dinner for two, the kind that wants a hotel’s polish rather than a bar’s volume.
The hotel also runs Lattice, a multi-cuisine restaurant with indoor and outdoor tables, and Fizz, its cocktail bar, so there is somewhere to go if the weather closes the roof. Tip: the hotel’s website does not give Sky Grill’s hours, so ring ahead, and ask whether non-residents can book the roof.
10. The View, Hotel Clarks Shiraz — a hotel roof over the city
Hotel Clarks Shiraz, on Taj Road, has a rooftop restaurant called The View, and the hotel is straightforward about what it looks at: the city. It is open for dinner only, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with a multi-cuisine menu and alcohol. Of everything on this list it is the closest in spirit to our own roof, a city view and a full dinner, with a hotel behind it.
The hotel also runs The Mughal Room, its flagship restaurant, with live ghazals every evening, and the Mughal Bar, which it describes as overlooking the Taj. Tip: if ghazals appeal more than the sky, book the Mughal Room; if you want the roof, ask for The View by name.

Tips for a rooftop evening in Agra
- Go between October and March. The evenings are cool and dry. In May and June the average daytime high is above 40°C, and a roof holds the heat until well after dark.
- Plan around the monsoon. It usually arrives in the first week of July and leaves by mid-September. Pick a roof with cover for those weeks: The Salt Cafe’s retractable roof, Tea’se Me’s air-conditioned section or our indoor room.
- Bring repellent. Mosquitoes are worst at dusk, and worst of all in the weeks after the rains.
- Book Fridays and Saturdays. In season the good tables go first. Ask for the last kitchen order as well as the closing time; they are different numbers.
- Expect haze in winter. The plains around Agra are prone to winter fog, made worse by air pollution, so a distant Taj can vanish on a December evening. The clearest views tend to come after rain.
- See the Taj by daylight. From any roof it is best in the afternoon and at sunset; after dark it is an outline at most. The ASI’s night viewing runs on five nights a month, the full moon and two nights either side, never on a Friday or in Ramzan; our night-view guide has the detail.
And after the view
With one evening in Agra, use both kinds of roof. Watch the light go from a terrace near the East Gate, then make the drive across town for a long dinner somewhere you can stay past ten. If that dinner is ours, book a table: it is free, confirms instantly and cancels free up to two hours before. Arrive before 7 PM and the mocktails are still 30% off, and the table offers, bigger on weekdays, are on the offers page. If the evening needs a bar after all, our list of bars in Agra picks up where this one stops.
